Theme |
Overview |
Time |
1: Metal work |
Extending the use of metalworking processes. |
A personal stamp is constructed using mild steel. The parts are joined by screw threading and brazing. Students gain skills in bench work and hot metal. |
Autumn term 1 |
2: Manufacturing with acrylic |
Acrylic product manufacture |
Acrylic is bent into a self supporting picture frame. Students learn to work effectively to produce a high quality product with polished edges. Other products may be designed and made using the same processes. |
|
3: Electronics |
Burglar alarm |
A latch circuit is constructed and housed in a case. Sensors are researched and incorporated onto the design. Students gain an understanding of systems, feedback, and how to construct a working system from components. |
Autumn term 2 |
4: Graphics |
Model making |
Students design and make a model shop front with associated graphics. They gain skills with graphic modelling materials such as foam board. CAD/CAM is used. |
|
5: Travel Game |
Portable game |
A long project, which should be used for end of year coursework assessment. Students research games and produce a portable or travel game. Wood is the main material but acrylic counters may be used. The laser cutter often used effectively. |
Spring term 1 |
6: Body adornment |
Pewter casting |
Students design and make a pendant or badge using the low melting point alloy –pewter. The end product will be highly polished. |
Spring term 2 |
