Two: Engineering Materials |
Advanced materials properties and applications |
Students study engineering materials both practically and theoretically to gain an understanding of their properties and applications |
Autumn Term 2 |
Three: Design Development |
Technical drawing skills. |
Working to British Standards students produce a series of technical drawings and produce a folio based on a theme set by the board. |
Spring Term |
Four: Exam Prep |
Completion of coursework folios and exam prep |
Coursework folios are completed to the required standard. Students are further prepared for the final examination. |
Summer Term |
Five: CAD |
Advanced CAD |
Students use a range of CAD software to demonstrate CAD skills. The student produces a folio of evidence. |
Autumn term 1 |
Six: Business and the environment |
Case study of engineering company. |
Students complete a short placement at an engineering or a manufacturing company. A case study is completed about the company, which includes a section relating its activities to environmental impact. |
Spring Term 1 |
Seven: Applications of new technology to products. |
New technology applications in engineering products – a case study. |
Students research and complete a folio detailing how new technology has been used in the production of innovative products. |
Spring Term 2 |
Eight |
Completion of folios to required standard. |
Students check and enhance folios for final submission to the board. No examination other than resits. |
Summer term. |
