Designing the product

Specification. Start ideas making use of mood boards and market research.

Design sheets

Developing the idea

Demonstrate orthographic drawing using the Visualiser.

Students then work to produce a drawing of the design and the mould which will be used to make it.

Visualiser. Card for modelling. Design booklet. Glue and scissors.

Students produce final drawings and a model of the mould and product.

Planning the making

Students produce a cutting list. Planning discussed then students produce a process sheet.

Making the product.

Use a template to transfer the design onto the MDF blanks.

Cut out using a coping saw.

Drill location holes.

Assemble mould.

Pour molten pewter into the mould.

Remove and clean up.

Polish.

Clamps and machine vise.

Pewter. Blowtorch or hot air gun. Ladle. Needle files.  Pillar drill and twist drills.

The completed mould and product.

Evaluation and testing

Final polishing and presentation of product.

Test and evaluate by survey and describing improvements and problems overcome.
