What are the disadvantages of pulleys?

Gears overcome some of the problems of pulleys. Gears are like pulleys with teeth. Simple gears are called spur gears.

Use models to investigate gears. Record your observations in the boxes by cutting and pasting the printed gears. Label the gears and show directions. Label the driver gear, the driven gear and idler gear.
