Overview |
Time |
1: Safety |
Workshop safety |
Students will be introduced to the workshop and its safety rules. The key fob project is used to enable the students to put the rules into practice. |
Autumn Term 1 |
2: Graphics |
Introduction to presentation graphics |
Using worksheets students will learn to label and annotate, to use colour to enhance 3D drawing work and present their work well in a D&T style. |
|
3: Biscuit cutter |
Manufacturing using plastics |
Students will design and make a mould for use on the vacuum-forming machine. The final product will be a biscuit cutter, which could actually be used. This is also an introduction to batch and mass production. |
Autumn Term 2 |
4: Bottle opener |
Using Metalwork manufacturing techniques. |
An introduction to the basic metal working tools – both machine and bench. Students will produce a well finished, dip coated bottle opener that works. |
Spring Term 1 |
5: Mini light |
A cad/cam project, |
Students will manufacture a very compact torch or lamp using CAD/CAM. The laser cutter will be used to produce components partly designed by the students and then the lamp will be assembled from the components. |
|
6: Steady hand game |
Practical electronics. |
A long project, which should be used for end of year coursework assessment. Students will use electronic manufacturing techniques to produce a simple time delay circuit. The circuit is then housed to produce the classic steady hand tester. |
Spring Term 2 |
