Storage Solutions

Produce a small storage box for presents or jewelry etc.

 

 

 

 

 

Students will design and make a small cardboard gift/jewellery box

Using appropriate resources, they will produce a storage box with a lid. (It can also be used as a gift box).

Students will learn about suitable packaging materials, Product analysis, Environmental issues, Industrial manufacturing methods and CAD/CAM.

Autumn Term 1

Two:

Disposable Camera project

Focus on our world – the impact of the disposable camera on our society – Produce an information resource for the school LRC

Students will use discarded disposable cameras to carry out product analysis on discarded cameras and produce an exhibition display board for younger students with information about manufacturing and recycling.

 

 

 

Autumn Term 2

 

 

Students to design their own Disposable Camera based on the information gathered and produce a prototype model from suitable medium available.

Students will investigate the environmental impact of the Disposable culture and make a presentation to the class.

Students will produce marketing material to promote their cameras in catalogues and the www.

Spring Term 1

Three:

Jewelry (pewter casting)

 

Design and make a piece of jewellery by pewter casting.

 

 

 

Students will produce a piece of jewellery by casting pewter into a mould of their own design.

MDF and acrylic are used for the moulds.

Market research and modelling are key features of this project.

Spring Term 2

Four:

Revision for mock GCSE examinations

Review of theory and skills learnt.

Students are given a range of questions to answer and discuss. Sample exam papers practiced.

Summer Term

Five:

Major GCSE coursework project

Production of the major project

 

The final project is 60% of the overall mark and a large part of the course is used to complete it.

Students work with a ‘Real life Client’ using the Education Business partnership. The use of design frames and a project guide enables students to work independently whenever possible. A feedback sheet also enables students to check and enhance their work.

Folder work is however teacher led and supported by the use of exemplars.

The department website also supports this course in every aspect of the course work as well as for examination preparation.

In the summer term students will work on the early stages of the design folder. Completing research, specification, initial ideas, and development of the chosen idea.
