Engineering Exam Questions

 

Many of the questions will be about workshop toolsand processess - just answer carefully from your experience using the correct names for tools and techniques.

There are notes on this website which cover many of the processes you will be asked about.

You will be asked about :-

Jigs for tasks such as drilling.

CADCAM advantages and disadvantages

Materials, especially which are suitable for a particular purpose.

Tools and their purpose.

Safety rules and safe working practices.

Manufacturing processes such as injection moulding and sandcasting.

Finishes for metals

Joining methods including soldering, brazing and fixings and fastenings.

All of the above sections are on this website.

There will also be questions about design, good/bad and how to improve a design. You will be presented with a drawing and asked to comment on and improve an aspect of its design.

Mechanisms especially gears, pulleys, sprocket and chain (as on bicycles), cams. Look on the links section there are lots of websites which cover mechanisms really well.
